Canada NewsWire

CALGARY, June 22 /CNW/ - up! magazine, the in-flight publication for WestJet Airlines produced by RedPoint Media Group on a contract basis, won Gold at the Western Magazine Awards on Friday evening.

Contributing editor Chris Koentges's "Tourists, Stay Away," a story which appeared in the December 2008 issue, won the "Gold Award - Best Article for B.C./Yukon" category.

"This is Chris Koentges's second massive award for up! magazine in two weeks," said Tom Gierasimczuk, up! magazine editor and RedPoint editorial director. "This story, about what it feels like to be a tourist in Vancouver's Downtown East Side neighbourhood in the shadow of unprecedented gentrification and Olympic preparation was a divisive yet ultimately satisfying read and further cements Chris as one of the country's most unique magazine writers."

RedPoint Media Group Inc., one of Western Canada's largest magazine publishers, produces 13 consumer and corporate titles. In addition to producing such well-known and award-winning titles as WestJet's up!, and Avenue in both Calgary and Edmonton, RedPoint also publishes Wine Access magazine and is the official magazine publisher for the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, Alberta Ballet, and Calgary Opera.
