Hewitt Associates 50 Best Employers in Canada Study places WestJet at number six

CALGARY, Dec. 31 /CNW/ - WestJet today announced that it has been selected as one of Canada's Best Employers as part of Hewitt Associates 2010 Best Employer Study. Conducted annually, this important study determines the 50 best employers in Canada through surveys conducted by Hewitt of more than 100,000 employees across Canada.

"This is exciting news for us," said Ferio Pugliese, WestJet Executive Vice-President, People and Culture. "WestJet works hard to ensure its people are engaged and fulfilled in their roles. We are very honoured to have our culture recognized by such a prestigious study on so many aspects of our company. This validates that our people differentiate us from other airlines."

This is the first year WestJet has participated in the study. More than 3,500 WestJet employees completed the survey.

"The culture at WestJet is built on transparency, inclusion and caring," continued Ferio. "It's important for us that our owners - our WestJetters, believe the company they work for cares about them and strives to provide opportunities for genuine open communication on a regular basis. We believe engagement comes from taking personal accountability for what you do, day in and day out. When employees are involved and cared for, they take pride in their work and it shows up in areas like safety and guest experience. Our success and profitability to date supports this notion and for that we sincerely thank every member of our WestJet family."

Captain Don Hougan, Chair of WestJet's employee association, PACT (ProActive Communication Team), and member of WestJet's Board of Directors, commented, "We are very proud to be named one of Canada's Best Employers by Hewitt. The great success of this airline comes through the engagement and commitment of every WestJetter. PACT will continue to collaborate with WestJet leadership to create a great employee experience that meets the needs of WestJetters and WestJet, enhances our culture and makes this one of the most desirable companies to work for."
