Airline becomes national presenting sponsor of Timeraiser 2010 events

CALGARY, March 18 /CNW/ - WestJet today announced its partnership with Framework Foundation's Timeraiser as the 2010 national presenting sponsor.

Framework Foundation is a growing non-profit organization that is creatively addressing complex challenges. Their approach is to empower Canadians to "get in the picture" to participate in volunteering and philanthropy. Timeraiser is a special event held throughout the year in various cities across Canada with the purpose of finding relevant and meaningful local volunteer opportunities that fit busy lifestyles.

"WestJet's partnership with Timeraiser is a reflection of our commitment to rewarding and encouraging WestJetters who volunteer in their community," said Scott Hartley, Director, Community Marketing and Creative Services, WestJet. "Timeraiser fits perfectly with WestJet's community investment program, WestJetters Caring for Our Community, which supports WestJetters' community involvement and volunteering by donating a gift of flight to the charity of their choice."

"This is an extraordinary partnership for Timeraiser. We are engaging the next generation of Canadians to apply their time and talent to causes that are important to them," said Anil Patel, Executive Director, Framework Foundation. "The social media campaign that we are launching today will help spread the word to tens of thousands of people across Canada so we can raise over 40,000 volunteer hours this year. WestJet's support makes our national programming more exciting than ever before."

Timeraiser combines a volunteer fair, silent art auction and a night on the town. Throughout the event, attendees meet with different agencies and match skills to needs. Once attendees have made their matches, they are eligible to bid on artwork. The big twist is that attendees bid volunteer hours instead of money. By attending, participants are committing to pledge 20 or more hours and have 12 months to fulfil their commitment.

Timeraiser events kick off Saturday, March 20, in Toronto, followed by events in Hamilton (April 22), London (May 13), Calgary (June 17), Vancouver (September 23), Edmonton (October 16) and Ottawa (November 13).
