Canadians declare Pictou Lobster Carnival Canada's favourite festival

Annual East Coast event wins WestJet online contest

CALGARY, Nov. 23 /CNW/ - WestJet today announced that the Pictou Lobster Carnival has been voted Canada's favourite festival. Canadians cast some 6,500 votes in an online contest as part of WestJet's Join the Debate, Win the Experience promotion, which centered around an interactive website, www.westjetfestivals.com.

"The WestJet Fun `n Festival Series sponsors upwards of 25 festivals every year and our Sponsorship team has heard from Canadians from coast to coast about which community hosts the best festival," said Corey Evans, Manager of Community Marketing at WestJet. "Join the Debate, Win the Experience was the chance for Canadians to promote and vote for their favourite festivals across the country. Congratulations to the Pictou Lobster Carnival, which was crowned Canada's favourite festival by a margin of 29 per cent!"

"The people of Nova Scotia, Pictou County and Town of Pictou are what make the Pictou Lobster Carnival a Nova Scotia signature event and Canada's favourite festival," says Anne Emmett, 2010 Chair of the Pictou Lobster Carnival. "We are honoured to be recognized and invite everyone to come out to our one-of-a-kind, 77-year-old 'carnie' weekend next July!"

Along with voting for their favourite festival, the www.westjetfestivals.com website allowed Canadians to share their experiences, photos, videos and opinions about any festival in Canada and enter to win one of six festival experiences. The site also reported the adventures of the WestJet Sponsorship team as they criss-crossed the country bringing the WestJet spirit to festivals in communities WestJet serves.
