WestJet cuts sale fares on select routes

Airline launches pricing experiment.

CALGARY, Nov. 7, 2014 /CNW/ - WestJet today announced it has lowered Econo sale fares on more than 15 city pairs by as much as 15 per cent as part of its strategy to provide lower fares to more Canadians. Today's announcement reinforces WestJet's commitment to being Canada's low-fare leader.

"When we introduced our first bag fee, one of our goals was to offer reduced fares," said Bob Cummings, WestJet Executive Vice-President, Sales, Marketing and Guest Experience. "For 18 years WestJet has been the low-fare leader in Canada. This pricing experiment allows us to see if lowering sale fares stimulates more demand and fills seats that would have otherwise gone empty at departure. The outcome will determine if it makes sense to incorporate this change in how we price fares on a broader level."

"I would like to thank WestJetters for working hard to keep costs low so we can reinforce this core attribute of our iconic brand. WestJet continues to look for ways to balance a commitment to low fares while delivering a strong return to our shareholders," concluded Bob Cummings.

The new, lower fares are highlighted in the table below.
