CALGARY, Feb. 11, 2015 /CNW/ - WestJet today announced it has entered into a code-share agreement with Philippine Airlines (PAL), allowing the carrier to begin marketing and selling WestJet-operated flights. The two carriers are building on an existing interline agreement that has been in place since May 2013.
Code-share designations will be available on select WestJet flights from Vancouver and Toronto, and all code-share sales are offered directly through Philippine Airlines or through their global distribution network.
"WestJet is proud to welcome guests travelling between Canada and the Philippines thanks to a new code-share agreement with Philippine Airlines," said Chris Avery, WestJet Vice-President, Network Planning, Alliances, and Corporate Development. "Travellers will enjoy the WestJet experience on flights to 37 Canadian destinations as well as convenient connections across our network. We at WestJet thank the many new guests we expect to see, and hope that today's announcement is welcomed by those looking to stay connected with friends and family in Canada and abroad."
"The Philippine Airlines-WestJet enhanced partnership, via the new code-share agreement, allows PAL to carry its passengers to key Canadian domestic points. On the other hand, PAL passengers may also connect to WestJet's other domestic points as well as its international destinations through the existing interline agreement. This alliance provides our passengers with wider reach, greater travel flexibility and convenience. It also doubles PAL's network reach in North America from five points – Vancouver, Toronto, Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York (beginning March 15, 2015) – to 10 in one stroke", according to PAL Senior Vice President, Commercial Group, David A. Lim.
This announcement marks 13 code-share agreements for WestJet. Since 2011, WestJet has initiated code-shares with American Airlines, Air France, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, China Eastern Airlines, China Southern Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Japan Airlines, KLM, Korean Air, Qantas and China Air. Additionally, WestJet has 27 interline relationships, further connecting passengers worldwide to WestJet's network.
