WestJet gives hope and takes action in support of the Missing Children Society of Canada

Airline invites guests to write messages of hope to families of missing children

CALGARY, May 25 /CNW/ - WestJet today announced a month-long awareness campaign in support of the Missing Children Society of Canada called "Give hope. Take action." The campaign invites WestJet guests to write a message of hope to families of missing children and to make personal pledges to stop child abduction.

"WestJet is proud to support the steadfast work of the Missing Children Society of Canada (MCSC), a WestJet Cares for Kids partner since 2004," said Richard Bartrem, WestJet Vice-President of Communications and Community Relations. "WestJet hopes that this campaign, collecting messages from individuals across Canada, will give the families of missing children the encouragement and hope to continue searching."

For one month, starting on National Missing Children's Day, May 25, WestJet invites all guests on domestic flights longer than one hour to join their caring culture by writing a message of hope to a family of a missing child, as well as make a personal "I STOP" pledge to end child abduction. Postcards will be distributed to guests on board and the messages will be collected and given to the MCSC who will share them with the families they serve and support. Messages of hope can also be submitted online at http://www.lightthewayhome.ca/westjet.html.

"Our searching families are faced with a terrifying reality every single day. Their unimaginable pain drives us to keep the active, front-line search going, and to show them that all of Canada stands by their sides," expressed Amanda Pick, Executive Director of MCSC and a mother of two. "For years, WestJet has been right there beside us, showing their support through the gift of flight. And now, they are also inspiring hundreds of thousands of Canadians to show their support, to give hope, and to take action. For us, and for our searching families, this is incredibly moving and meaningful."

Every year, WestJet donates gifts of flight to the MCSC to help them reunite families with their missing children.

WestJet today launched the "Give hope. Take action." campaign at a touching event at the WestJet campus in Calgary. WestJet CEO Gregg Saretsky presented the MCSC with the first message of hope on behalf of WestJet along with his personal "I STOP" pledge to stop child abduction. Canadian singer Nate Hall performed his debut single Things, a song he has dedicated to the MCSC "I STOP" movement.
