Media Advisory - WestJet Encore launches June 24 with events in Nanaimo and Victoria

CALGARY, June 20, 2013 /CNW/ - Vancouver Island media are invited to join WestJet guests and invited dignitaries on Monday, June 24, 2013, as WestJet Encore launches flights between Calgary and Nanaimo, and Victoria and Vancouver. Details on events in both Nanaimo and Victoria are included in this advisory to assist you in your planning.

Please watch for media advisories from your local airports regarding more details as well as any RSVP requirements that may be required to obtain clearance to go airside, if needed, to cover all of Monday's events at these airports. If RSVPs are required, please work directly with your local airport authorities.

Nanaimo Airport
10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

What you can expect:

  • "Fun in the Sun" featuring beach-themed visuals, BBQ, and kids' activities such as a huge inflatable slide and face-painting (10 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.)
  • Aircraft arrives 11:46 am
  • Ribbon-cutting at 12:00 p.m. in the secure passenger area
  • Access to WestJet Encore President Ferio Pugliese and other invited officials in the secure passenger area
  • Aircraft boards at 12:15 p.m. and departs at 12:30 p.m.

Victoria International Airport
7-9 p.m.

What you can expect:

  • Reception begins at 7 p.m. in the Eagles Landing Observation Lounge at the airport
  • Media requiring airside access are asked to please rsvp by email:
  • Media to be escorted to tarmac at 7:30 p.m. to set up for arrival of aircraft
  • Aircraft arrives at 7:50 p.m. (b-roll/photo opportunity)
  • Brief speeches by WestJet Encore president Ferio Pugliese and Victoria Airport Authority CEO Geoff Dickson in Eagles Landing Observation Lounge at 8:20 p.m., followed by opportunity for interviews.
  • Reception ends at 9 p.m.
  • FYI -- Aircraft will overnight in Victoria and depart for Vancouver at 7:15 a.m. Tuesday, June 25.
